Russia is a landlocked country and the problem of iodine deficiency has a direct relation to that. The population of maritime countries with warm coastlines (Japan, USA, Europe, etc.) are less affected by the violation of the iodine balance as iodine comes from the sea, i.e., in these countries the environment helps people inhale iodized sea air with an iodine concentration of about 50 µg/m3. In Moscow and in Siberia (Novosibirsk) the concentration of iodine in the air does not exceed 1 µg/m3.

The violation of its balance in the body leads to abnormal functioning of the endocrine system (thyroid gland), and, respectively, to the abnormal development of an individual.

LLC. "INGATEK" has developed and patented a technology of iodization through inhalation and a hygroscopic potassium iodide (KI) aerosol generator with a particle size of 0.005 to 1 micron for the enrichment of the air with positively and negatively charged particles of submicron KI aerosol.

Its characteristics were diagnosed and positively evaluated by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing in Moscow, certified by CB ANO ET Moscow, Novosibirsk TB Research Institute of RosMedTech.

Intakes of submicron hygroscopic KI aerosol occur in the process of respiration, i.e. as a result of air, containing a predetermined amount of alkali metal iodides aerosols, inhalation. Wherein, such small particles do not settle in the nasopharynx, but are effectively trapped within the channels of the developed surface of the bronchi and lungs. Precipitated hygroscopic particles dissolve and enter the bloodstream.

Consumption of certified potassium iodide in aerosol through breathing has a number of advantages over the conventional method of its intake through the stomach: a developed surface area of hygroscopic dispersed particle and significantly greater digestibility, absolute safety and continuous intake of iodine in the body in homeopathic mode, i.e. small doses of ~ 5-20 µg/hour regardless of the desires of man and his eating habits. As a result, a daily intake of iodine according to the medical standards of the Russian Federation (50 to 150 µg/day depending on the age of the person) can be provided and thus the acute problems of iodine deficiency can be solved.

On average, one capsule with potassium iodide is sufficient for continuous operation of the generator for 7-12 months, after which it is necessary to refuel with a new portion of potassium iodide.

Sea air generator has broad prospects as the solution of problems of preventive improvement of the population of the working personnel of nuclear power plants, submarine, Minatom objects, the Chernobyl NPP.

The device can be used in air conditioning systems and for the establishment of a therapeutic marine climate, to compensate for iodine deficiency in people suffering from a violation of its balance in the body, as well as for iodization through inhalation of younger generations in kindergartens, schools, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and hospitals.


Air cannot only be cleaned of contaminants, but also enriched with the useful substances for the amelioration of human health. After all, there is nothing more natural than breathing, and with the cleanest air, all the substances necessary for our body get in our blood, and their saturation will occur as if by itself, with incomparably greater efficiency than if they had been absorbed through the stomach. This approach was implemented in the "INGATEK" device, which was created to solve the problem of iodine deficiency.

This issue arose in our country a long time ago, but if in the distant 30s, it was seen as a problem of national importance, in connection with which all incoming food salt was iodized, now it has simply been forgotten about. However, if the human body receives less than 100 micrograms of iodine a day, it is fraught with such diseases as cretinism, the violation of intellectual and physical development, cognitive impairment, and decreased fertility.

Accepted norms of iodine intake in our country: 50-200 micrograms per day (depending on age). This is the threshold at which iodine deficiency begins, which is manifested in the deterioration of brain activity, and the weakening of the immune system, which depends on the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, which is in dire need of iodine. This figure does not compare ti the amount of iodine consumed in other countries. It is especially great in countries that have, because of long borders with the sea, an increased concentration of iodine in the air. Thus, the population of England, Scandinavian countries, the coastal States receive 700 micrograms per day, and Japan - a country where technological civilization develops the most successfully, and people live especially long - about 1,700 micrograms.

We often do not get even that minimal dose, which we have accepted as the norm. Though, in recent years, this problem has begun to attract more attention. However, the ways proposed to overcome iodine deficiency are based either on taking tablets or the addition of iodine in the diet. In both cases, iodine is ingested through the stomach. However, this method is ineffective, because no more than 15% of the consumed iodine is absorbed. Then, for the assimilation of the required amount, we would have to swallow pills or continuously eat iodine-containing food just like cows - grass. In addition, the tablet can cause food allergies, and our taste preferences may oppose the proposed food. In addition, starch, salt and spicy foods inhibit the absorption of iodine tablets, iodized salt decomposes when heated, so it can be used only for salting already cooked food, and seafood cannot add salt because more active chlorine atoms will replace iodine atoms.

All this makes the method of iodine replenishment in the human body through the air saturated with iodine vapor the most promising. In the sea air inhaler, created and patented by LLC "INGATEK" vapor is formed by the sublimation of the salts of potassium iodide. The performance of the generator was calculated based on essential daily human needs of iodine. The calculation takes into account both the amount of space and number of air changes, i.e. how many times the air in the room will change due to the ventilation.

By sublimation, an aerosol size from 0.005 to 1 micron forms in the air. They are fairly stable in air, easily carried around the room and almost never stick to the floor and walls, stay suspended in the air, so that the saturation of iodine in the air becomes the same as somewhere on the ocean coast. Once inhaled, the particles penetrate into the lungs and bronchi, and, bypassing the stomach, go directly into the bloodstream.

OPERATION: The device is a small rectangular case, with a built-in oven, which heats the salt to the working temperature of 750 degrees. The capsule is inserted into the oven, filled with crystalline potassium iodide, from which, when heated, forms a stable aerosol evenly distributed for a given volume.

On average, one capsule with salt is enough for the generator to work for 7-12 months, after that it should be filled with a new portion of potassium iodide, while the device is switched off and cooled down.


ADVANTAGES: high digestibility, extreme simplicity and convenience, efficiency and absolute security.

LIMITATIONS: Due to the fragility of the capsule, device should be handled with care (in particular, it should not be turned over).

OVERALL ASSESSMENT: A device that implements a fundamentally new way of saturation of the body with iodine has been created and patented. Consumption of iodine through breathing has some significant advantages over the commonly used method of consumption through the stomach: a much higher digestibility, absolute safety, entry into the body regardless of the person’s wishes and eating habits. With the help of this device, it is very easy to achieve the required daily intake of iodine, and therefore, it becomes possible to solve the urgent problem of iodine deficiency.
